Regulatory Framework


A. Framework with regard to contents and formal conditions

Eligibility to participate

Students, young professionals, start-ups, small companies (maximum 50 employees) who live or who are enrolled in a university / research institute in Baden-Württemberg or who have their office in Baden-Württemberg can participate in the award.

Companies should be part of the IT sector and must have their business location in Baden-Württemberg. Moreover, public bodies and public administrations from Baden-Württemberg can take part in the award. Public bodies and companies have to provide in their application form a signature by an approved signatory. Representatives of companies and institutions that are part of the jury are not eligible to participate.

Individuals must have their permanent residence in Baden-Württemberg or in one of the neighbouring economic areas. As neighbouring economic areas are defined areas which outreach the frontier of Baden-Württemberg, such as the metropol region Rhein-Neckar, the region Donau-Iller or the greater area of Konstanz. Participants who are not adult have to provide in their application form the signature of a legal guardian.

Criteria for the application form

Participants can apply with an informal application of max. 3 pages in one of the following categories:

  • Intermodal Travelling Concepts – Remote Mobility Solutions for using different ways of travelling
  • Mobile File Exchange
  • Remote Desktop Solutions for mobile devices
  • Communication and Collaboration software
  • Open Category Mobility 3.0

Participants can only apply for one category.

The Concept should be sent to mobilewettbewerb@mfg.de via Email (max. 5 MB) as an informal application. The application should contain maximum 3 pages and should provide the following information:

  • Technical outline on the architecture layer
  • Technologies to be used
  • Implementation plan / milestones / time schedule
  • Options for licensing the developed software (please justify)

The concept will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Sustainability of the solution
  • Degree of innovation of the solution
  • Realisability

Prize Money

In each category the 2-3 most promising applicants are selected (award money 500 Euro) and are asked to implement their concepts until May 2012. In May 2012 one winner per category is selected and will receive further 3.500 Euro as well as a start up coaching. The winners can present their solutions on the occasion of LinuxTag 2012. (Reimbursement of travel expenses for the winners).

B. Legal framework

The organizer of the award reserves the right to cancel one of the categories in case that less than three concepts have been handed in.

Applicants declare that they are author of the concept that they are handing in and that they excempt the organizer from all claims of third parties which can be deduced from infringement of copyright, industrial property rights, business secrets or other rights with regard to their concepts. In case a service provider is handing in a concept, the agreement of the customer is necessary.

By submitting an application to participate in the Award Baden-Württemberg Goes Mobile, the applicant agrees to the conditions of participation and agrees to the public presentation of his concept as well as of the solutions produced during the implementation phase. The intellectual property remains with the author of the concept / developed solution.

Participants respectively the approved signatory declare their approval to the electronic storage of their personal data for carrying out the award. All data are treated according to data privacy regulations. Beyond that, all organisers, sponsors, members of the jury, mentors and employees of the award undertake not to exploit the information and technical details provided to them with regards to the award, not to divulge them to any third parties and to keep the information confidential. This commitment does not account for:

  • information which is common knowledge
  • information which will be published in the course of the award (e.g. on the occasion of the public presentation of the results)
  • information which has been acquired irrespective of the award
  • information which has been acquired legally by third parties.

All costs occuring with regard to the participation in the award, will be covered by the participant (disregarding travel costs of the winners of the four categories to the award ceremony in Berlin).

The jury can award price money in the five categories Intermodal Travelling Concepts - Remote Mobility Solutions for using different ways of travelling, Mobile File Exchange, Remote Desktop Solutions for mobile devices, Communication and Collaboration software, Open Category Mobility 3.0. Decisions of the jury are irrevocable. Any recourse to courts of law is excluded. Modifications are reserved. Deadline for submitting applications is November 30th 2011.
